MEMIC Receives Best Places to Work Award From Gov. Baldacci

PORTLAND, Maine, September 25, 2006—Last week, MEMIC was presented its award as one of the best places to work in Maine by Gov. John Baldacci before a large audience at the Augusta Civic Center.

MEMIC ranked fourth overall in the large company category. Disability RMS of Westbrook was first, followed by T-Mobile USA of Oakland, and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice of Lewiston. Rounding out the finalists and finishing behind MEMIC were: Camden National Bank, followed by Wright Express, UnumProvident Corporation, Geiger and MaineGeneral Hospital. The medium sized companies award went to Portland law firm, Verrill and Dana. MMG Insurance of Presque Isle was second. MEMIC business partner Clark Associates was 8th in the medium-size category. Pioneer Telephone of Portland won the small company category.

This award was the result of an in-depth review of the company's policies, procedures and performance in the area of human resources. That review accounted for 25 percent of the overall score. The remaining 75 percent came directly from the 65-question employee survey which provided the independent reviewers with important insight into the organization.

As a first-time entrant into this contest, we're proud of placing so well against the best companies in Maine. In addition, this review has helped us to understand our strengths so that we can continue to reinforce them and has shown us where we can make improvements. We have ordered copies for each MEMIC employee of the "Best Places to Work in Maine" annual report so that you can read more about the competition. Thanks for your participation.
