MEMIC Announces Promotion of McLain, Payton

PORTLAND, ME, April 1, 2014 – The MEMIC Group has announced the promotions of Troy McLain to Manager of Maine Advocate Operations, and of Jared Payton to National Director of Ancillary Services.

McLain began at MEMIC in 1997, serving as a Hearing Representative. He was later promoted to Employer Advocate, litigating hundreds of workers' compensation claims on behalf of employers throughout Maine and went on to lead MEMIC's Advocate Department. In his new role as Manager of Maine Advocate Operations, McLain will be responsible for day-to-day operations of MEMIC's staff of insurance defense attorneys, as well as maintaining his own caseload of litigation files.

A graduate of University of Michigan and the University of Maine School of Law, McLain is admitted to the Maine Bar and is licensed to practice in both state and federal courts. In his free time, McLain is a volunteer coach for the Falmouth Little League tee ball team.

Payton joined MEMIC in 1996 and has served in roles with increasing responsibility within the company's Claims Department. Most recently, he served as the Director of Claim Operations, overseeing MEMIC's Maine claim operation. In his new role as the National Director of Ancillary Services, Payton will oversee the activities and development of employer advocates and special investigators across all jurisdictions in which MEMIC operates, from MEMIC's Tampa, Florida location.

A Bowdoin College graduate, Payton has taken an active role in educating policyholders and producers about the ins and outs of the workers' compensation system. Payton currently serves on the Board of Directors of The Center for Grieving Children in Portland.
