MEMIC Adds Three Industry Veterans to Underwriting Team

(Portland, ME) — MEMIC, a workers’ compensation insurance specialty carrier with offices from Maine to Florida and licenses across the nation, welcomes three new hires to its Underwriting team: Diane Firster as Senior Production Underwriter, Scott Richards as Senior Production Underwriter, and Sunny Jarrard as Senior Loss Sensitive Underwriter. 

Diane Firster

A 31-year insurance industry veteran, Firster most recently served as Product Manager for Philadelphia Insurance and previously as an Account Management Specialist with Selective Insurance for 7 ½ years, helping her develop a wealth of multi-line commercial experience. 

Firster earned a bachelor of science in mathematics/education from Slippery Rock University and holds the following insurance designations: Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU), Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Associate in General Insurance.

She lives in Philadelphia with her husband and enjoys volunteering at MANNA, which provides nutritional meals to people with serious illnesses and injuries.

 Scott Richards

Richards, who joined MEMIC in June, began his career with The Hartford in 1997. He served there for 10 years before accepting underwriting and leadership positions with Harleysville/Nationwide and Travelers.

With a background in generating profitable growth, primarily in the middle market segment, Richards earned a bachelor’s degree in management from SUNY-Empire State College and recently completed an Executive Education program at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, sponsored by The Institutes.

A lifetime resident of upstate New York, Richards lives in Whitesboro, N.Y., with his wife and family dog.

 Sunny Jarrard

Jarrard will manage MEMIC’s Loss Sensitive portfolio in the Eastern Region. She began her insurance career as an independent agent in 2010 and transitioned into underwriting in 2014, when she joined Travelers’ National Accounts division. In 2019, she joined Safety National, where she managed the Florida, Georgia and Tennessee territories with a $25 million book of Loss Sensitive business.

A member of the Young Risk Professionals network in Atlanta, Jarrard lives in Roswell, Ga.
