MEMIC Promotes Schwartz to Vice President, Underwriting Compliance

PORTLAND, Maine, July 11, 2017 – Workers' compensation specialist The MEMIC Group has announced the promotion of Karen Schwartz to the position of vice president, underwriting compliance. She is responsible for leading the underwriting regulatory compliance and quality assurance teams across the group’s entire footprint.

Schwartz joined MEMIC in 2002 as an underwriter and was promoted to director of compliance in 2004. Prior to MEMIC, she was a program manager at Safeco Insurance, an account administrator at the insurance brokerage firm Parker, Smith & Feek and an analyst at the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI).

Schwartz graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Hofstra University. She has earned her Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Workers' Compensation Professional (WCP®), Associate Compliance Professional (ACP), Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI) designations.

Schwartz has volunteered with animal welfare organizations and as treasurer for the Cosmopolitan Club of Bath which has been committed to inspiring and encouraging women’s aspirations since 1913. Originally from Connecticut, Schwartz currently lives in Woolwich, Maine with her husband and two greyhounds.
