2008 MEMIC Comp Summit Highlights Announced; American Soldier Once Stranded in Somalia Will Keynote

PORTLAND, Maine, August 8, 2008 – The 12th annual MEMIC Comp Summit, scheduled for November 13 and 14, will be headlined by an American soldier whose story became the basis for the movie “Black Hawk Down,” the company announced today.

In announcing the highlights of the conference, which is free to MEMIC policyholders and is held at the Grand Summit Hotel at Sunday River Resort, the company released an opening day schedule that includes presentations by the president-elect of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, the attorney general of Maine, and a New England businesswoman who went from high school dropout to the owner of her own construction company.

The conference concludes on Friday, November 14 with a luncheon address by Sgt. Matt Eversmann who was among an elite group of American soldiers on a United Nations mission who were stranded in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1993. Eversmann tells the story of those 18 harrowing hours and how values-based leadership helped the soldiers be at their best in the most difficult of circumstances.

The MEMIC Comp Summit annually draws about 500 MEMIC policyholder representatives who come to the meeting to learn more about workers’ compensation and other important business topics. In addition, the conference provides MEMIC policyholders an opportunity to network with one another and to meet vendors who offer products and services that can help in supporting a safer workplace.
