2 new underwriters put MEMIC Express in focus

Keller, Lynn bring decades of underwriting experience with small business in mind

(Portland, ME) – MEMIC, workers’ compensation insurance specialists, continues its expansion of East Coast underwriting staff charged with building its small business book.

E.K. Keller joined MEMIC in June as Express Business Segment Leader in the Eastern Region. Keith Lynn signed on in September as Production Underwriter in the company’s Southeast territory.

“E.K. and Keith are both certain to show small businesses in their region the value MEMIC Express would bring,” MEMIC Eastern Region President Jeffrey Funk said. “We’re lucky to have them as we extend our MEMIC Express offer to new markets and regions.”

Keller began his insurance career in 2007 as claims adjuster and transitioned into commercial underwriting in 2015 with Travelers. While at Travelers, he moved into leadership in 2018, working in Small Business and Middle Market in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.

Keller is responsible for the strategic plan to scale MEMIC Express, the MEMIC product tailored to small businesses with annual premiums of $500 to $50,000, with favorable loss history, and limited over-the-road exposure.

“With more than 33 million small businesses in the United States, there’s big opportunity in small business. As we get Express into the market, I am very confident businesses in a range of industries will see the value of insuring with MEMIC,” Keller said. “Many already have.”

Lynn joined Travelers in 2014 in the Claims Department before transitioning to Account Manager and eventually Underwriter for commercial accounts in the Southeast territory: Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi. At MEMIC, he brings experience and trusted agency relationships to his underwriting role.

“I’ve already seen a keen interest in the MEMIC Express concept of more closely tailoring premiums to exposure,” Lynn said. “I feel confident we will attract some very motivated interest among small businesses that want to improve their bottom lines.”

As the MEMIC Express underwriting team grows throughout the East Coast, Keller expects the offer will help make MEMIC the carrier of choice for agency partners.

A streamlined quote-to-issuance process is crucial in that endeavor, he said, as MEMIC’s Quick Comp Agent Portal allows agents to easily quote and issue workers’ compensation coverage in every state, and “renewals are a breeze.”

“Express does not use a centralized or a service center model,” Keller said. “We are relationship-driven. Our policyholders know exactly who their underwriter is, and how to contact them.”

MEMIC Express policyholders also have free access to hundreds of free industry-best safety training videos, compliance tools, workshops, webinars, Safety.BLR.com®, HR.BLR.com®, and the E-ERGO™ personalized ergonomic assessment tool.

Keller lives with his wife and two children in Atlanta, where he loves playing table-tennis, Nertz, and shooting hoops with his children. Keith and his wife, Leah, live in Braselton, Ga., with their three daughters. He enjoys trail running, working in the yard, and spending time with his family.
