Portland, Maine – The MEMIC Group, the third-largest workers' compensation specialist in the United States, has promoted Ben Delcourt to Regional Vice President, Underwriting. He will lead MEMIC’s Maine underwriting team and collaborate with the company’s independent agency partners across the state. Delcourt succeeds Vice President Catherine Duranceau, who will retire in January 2027.
During nearly 14 years at MEMIC, Delcourt has advanced from Account Analyst to Associate Underwriter, Underwriter I, Underwriting Supervisor, Manager of Underwriting and Director of Underwriting for the Maine Region. Throughout his tenure, he has helped shape underwriting strategy, strengthen agency relationships and support MEMIC’s Maine policyholders.
“Ben has earned this opportunity through his leadership, sound judgment and ability to build strong relationships within our company and with our agency partners,” said Michael Bourque, President and CEO of The MEMIC Group. “He understands our business, the Maine market and the importance of relationships. Maine is where MEMIC began and remains central to who we are and what we do. Ben has the experience and perspective to lead our Maine underwriting team into the future.”
Delcourt was named to the 2026 Mainebiz 40 Under 40 class, which recognizes emerging leaders shaping Maine and its economy. He also serves as president of the Maine Chapter of the CPCU Society, where he and fellow board members have expanded the organization’s charitable giving efforts.
“MEMIC has given me tremendous opportunities to grow, and I’m grateful to the leaders and colleagues who have supported me throughout my career,” said Delcourt. “I’ve also been fortunate to learn from Cathy’s example. I’m excited to build on that foundation, develop our team and work with our agency partners to serve Maine employers and position them for long-term success.”
“After 25 years at MEMIC, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built in Maine and even more proud to know it will be in such good hands,” said Catherine Duranceau, Vice President, Underwriting. “I’ve had the opportunity to watch Ben grow into a thoughtful, trusted leader who cares deeply about our team, our agency partners and our policyholders. I couldn’t feel better about him taking on this role.”
Delcourt holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Workers’ Compensation Professional (WCP) designations and has completed The Institutes Management Education Program, the Build a Better Maine Program and Cornell University’s Executive Leadership Program. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting from the University of Maine, a Master of Science in Accounting from Kaplan University, and an MBA in Risk Management from Husson University. He also serves as a board member of the University of Maine Alumni of Southern Maine.
