As part of MSHA's 30 CFR Part 46 training regulations, all sand and gravel pit workers must have an 8-hour safety course once a year.  This workshop reviews important safety-related topics including recognition and prevention of hazards, required personal protective equipment, miners’ health, material handling, and confined space entry requirements.

As a result of this one day course, participants will have the ability to:

  1. Identify key hazards associated with changing conditions at open pit mines.
  2. Describe methods to protect workers from noise and dust exposure.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to recognize hazards related to open pit mining.
  4. Give examples of methods to eliminate or minimize hazards related to open pit mining.
Disclaimer: This training is not all-inclusive of the MSHA 8-Hour Refresher Training requirements. Site-specific hazards at the mine that affect miner safety shall be addressed by a competent person identified in your company’s MSHA Part 46 training plan.
