MEMIC puts safety to work

Company Overview

Senior Management - John Marr

John has 25 years of experience in claim management, litigation, special investigation and all facets of disability management. Among the first of MEMIC’s executive team to be hired, John has put in place an ideal claim management system for a workers’ compensation specialty company including claim handling, case management, claim automation, claim reserving, fraud investigation and medical management procedures.

His department was cited as having the greatest accuracy for statutory reporting among all comparable carriers writing workers’ compensation in the State of Maine. In addition, his unit’s file management and reserving practices are considered among the best in the nation by outside auditors and consultants.

Among the innovations he has introduced to MEMIC are 24-hour reporting, toll free reporting, a medical advisory committee, medical practice protocols and effective return-to-work strategies that all have contributed to a substantial reduction in claim payout.

John’s career prior to joining MEMIC was spent with The Travelers Insurance Companies including positions of claim representative, workers’ compensation claim supervisor, multi-state/multi-line claim supervisor, Manager of Commercial Lines Residual Market Division and finally Manager of Travelers Workers’ Compensation Claim Operations for all of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

John is deeply involved in both professional and civic affairs. He has served on the Massachusetts Governor’s Advisory Council on Workers’ Compensation, the Rhode Island Implementation Task Force, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Task Force on Medical Problems in Workers’ Compensation, and the Artificial Intelligence Disability Profile Task Force. John has been appointed by the Governor of Maine to serve on the Supplemental Benefits Oversight Committee of the Workers’ Compensation Board, and has served in the capacity as Chair from the outset.  He currently serves as Advisor for the Claim and Rehabilitation Committee of AASCIF.  He was appointed by the Governor to the Advisory Council to the Massachusetts Department of Industrial Accidents.  He has served as a consultant to the American Academy Board of Orthopedic Surgeons, is a past President and current member of the Board of Directors of Portland’s Downtown District, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Maine Health Information Center.
